For shoulder disarticulation incidents, most times cosmetic prostheses are preferred, except from the cases of double amputations, where the functionality levels should be enhanced.
- Solid bone coverage
- Maintenance of the functional length
- Maintenance of the useful sensory receptors
- Prevention of symptomatic neuroma
- Prevention for adjacent joints
- Minimization of short- and long-term illness
- Timely fitting of the prosthesis
- Early patient’s return to their daily routine
For amputations of the humerus we mainly choose cosmetic, mechanic, muscle-electronic and hybrid prostheses. However, based on our manufacturing experience, we have concluded that the prosthetic solution of the hybrid prostheses is compatible with the majority of our patients. In this case, the patient reserves the muscle-electronic control of the thumb-index-middle finger and the pronation-supination of the wrist and he is also able to control the flexion-extension and the stabilization of the elbow, mechanically or electrically with shoulder straps.
The new generation of muscle-electric elbows enables us to get closer than ever the natural movement of the upper limbs, thanks to their advanced technology.
The DynamicArm 12K100 of the Otto Bock House, consisting of four micro-processors, offers the patient with minimum energy expenditure the direct placement of the prosthesis in the desired position. The combination of its features is maybe one of the most impressive prosthetic systems. The patient has the ability to actively raise loads that weigh up to 6kg, while thanks to DMC technology (dynamic mode control) the velocity and the power of motion is proportional to muscle contraction. The weight of the joint does not exceed 960gr, while the built-in battery provides the energy required for the necessary daily activities.
The DynamicArm 12K100 meets twice as fast as other electronic elbows (0.5 seconds from a position of full flexion to a position of full extension), while the technology AXON Bus provides a direct signal transmission. Therefore, the patient is able to perform natural and harmonious movements (flexion, extension, pronation or supination of the prosthetic hand) with great ease and immediacy. Furthermore, the advanced AFB system (Automatic Forearm Balance) stores energy that is used during the execution of the extension and releases it during the flexion phase, allowing the natural swing of the arm in the walking cycle. The joint programming is achieved via the embedded Bluetooth device, which is connected with the appropriate software from a computer. The CRC is certified in the application of the 12K100 elbow and has specialized prosthetic professionals who will train the patient.
In our company an application can be piloted in patients with recent or old amputations with no financial burden.
