Orthotics      Foot Scan

The foot scan of each patient will help in selecting of the appropriate orthotic foot with a view to increase the performance. Indications to conduct foot scanning and construction of special soles or shoes are:

  • Patients with leg length discrepancies (limb shortening)foot
  • Diabetic patients or postoperative diabetic foot
  • Excessive elevation of the foot arches
  • Vlaisoplatypodia
  • Heel spurs and dilated plantar fascia
  • Metatarsalgia
  • Morton Neuroma
  • Calluses
  • Sport Injuries

The orthopedic or orthotic insoles are specialized embedded constructions for shoes that offer lateral and metatarsal support and help to restore the natural position of the foot. They offset deformities and abnormalities of the foot and relieve pain, while correcting the posture.

It is vital that their construction is performed in consultation with the specialist professional podiatrist, who assesses the pathological condition via foot scanning and the patient, who analyzes his personal needs (mileage, type of shoes, etc).

Is the orthotic insole is similar to a common insole?
foot3No, because the common insoles have been constructed to provide a soft support and shock absorption. The feeling they provide is perceived from their very first application; however, they do not deal with the root of pain and disease. In contrast, orthotic insoles are manufactured individually, based on the needs of each patient, with an aim to improve and change the functionality of the foot. They offer even and harmonious distribution of the pressures, across the foot sole and improve the biomechanics of the foot.

Do I need orthotic insoles and if so will they solve my problem?
foot1Some feet symptoms are generally related with sole pain, and more specifically with heel, ankle and finger pain or pain due to calluses, fallen arches or fallen metatarsal bones. The orthotic insoles could assist in the readjustment of the links in order to address such malformations. They can also be utilized as an alternative solution to surgery or after surgery, to maintain alignment of the foot, ankle, knee or hip. They are useful in several pathological conditions, but they do not constitute a complete treatment. They cannot reverse the damage already caused. Nevertheless, they can reduce the severity of symptoms and alleviate much of the pain. In some cases they can even eliminate the symptoms.

Should I wear the insoles throughout the day?
The orthotic insoles, like eyeglasses are useful only when worn. They do not change the structure of the foot, but assist in the readjustment of the joints and ligaments. Their usage is recommended throughout the day, to reduce fatigue and control the pain. In those cases where the application of an orthotic insole in common shoes is not enough to bring the desired results, the patient needs to wear orthopedic shoes. In carrying out the medical prescription, we depict accurately the foot via a plaster model or simple measurements and evaluate its tolerance to pressure loads. We properly design the forms of materials that will be utilized and proceed in the gradual configuration of the shoe with the required rehearsals and corrections. In our company we manufacture both classical and very modern designs of exceptional elegance, guided by the highest standards of European footwear.

In addition, we are equipped with custom-made, postoperative shoes for pathological conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, traumatic injuries, etc, while we accept alterations or repairs to the existing footwear (ready or upon order).
